I recently received two emails from Anthony Imperato, President of Henry Repeating Arms. If you’re on their mailing list, I’m sure you received the same emails.

I don’t know about you, but I’m a die hard Christian. I attend church every Sunday, read the scriptures and say my prayers. So I’m going to come out straight here. When someone sends me an email wishing me a Merry Xmas, I cringe and feel so much disgust towards the person who just blotted out the name of Christ in the word ‘Christmas,’ just to save themselves a little time and effort. It drives me bonkers!

I’m sure many of you can relate with me and probably feel the same way. So I did some research.

I recently discovered that the ‘X’ in ‘Xmas’ is actually indicating the Greek letter “Chi,” which is short for a Greek word with the meaning “Christ.” So Xmas is “technically” an abbreviation for Christmas, if you want to look at it that way.

Needless to say, it makes me feel a little bit better that the purpose of the ‘X’ isn’t used entirely to blog out the name of Christ. However, I still feel that it shouldn’t be used in this instance. I’m not going to stand up in Church this weekend and refer to Jesus Christ as “Jesus X.” Then why on earth would we do it for Christmas?

It’s just six letters to write out. Christ. It takes me about as much time to hold the caps lock button down while hitting the X button as it does to type the word “Christ.”

Anyway, the second email Anthony of Henry Repeating Arms send out was an apology for using the abbreviated word for Christmas in his email stating that, “…it will never happen again.”

I wonder if he apologized because someone like me threw a fit, or if he or one of his staff noticed the error and simply wanted to make it right? With a slogan like, “Made in America or not made at all,” I think the apology was worth the extra email and very well received.
