Here we go. Here’s another review for you. Carpathen sent me the Companion Light S Headlamp to review in exchange for my honest opinion.

I recently did a review on another headlamp from Sportstek, which I believe is in a different class when it comes to headlamps. If you’re looking for something a little more heavy duty, with a bit more range and focus on your main LED beam, then you might take a look at the Sportstek Headlamp as well…just to compare.

The Companion Light S from CarpathenCompanion Light S Headlamp

Let’s take a closer look at the Companion Light S. My first impression of this headlamp, after receiving the headlamp from Sportstek was, “Wow, this is light!” And it is. It’s built that way and takes AAA batteries instead of the much larger and heavier AA. With that said, it feels like you’re wearing less on your head, which I like. Lighter is sometimes better!

Just a few features on the Companion Light S headlamp:

  • It has a main LED light as well as red lights positions on either side of the main LED, each having multiple settings (flashing/constant/high/low). Depending on the setting, you’ll have up to 16 hours of steady LED light.
  • Each light, red and white, has it’s own button for easy operation.
  • The lamp is adjustable for changing the beam angle, of course.
  • The straps are very easy to use and can fit small and large heads alike.
  • Comes with a smaller red light which can be fastened to a bike handle, or in my case, a PowerWheels steering wheel.

After reviewing this headlamp for quite some time, including extensive use from my son, it’s a great headlamp. If you’re looking for a gift for your Dad this next Father’s Day, a birthday gift for your brother or friend, or just needing some hands free light, the Companion Light S Headlamp will do the trick.

Have you ever heard the saying that “real men always have a knife on them?” I sure have. One too many times. And the funny thing about it is, when I have a knife on me for my reasons, my wife tends to roll her eyes at me. But when I don’t have a knife on me, and she needs one, I get the eye roll again!

It’s a lose, lose situation.

I’m also the kind of guy that hates to have stuff in my pockets, because I hardly ever wear a belt. And without a belt, there’s always the threat of a full moon….if you know what I mean.

Spring Assisted Tactical KnifeHowever, with as cool as some of these knives are, it’s making me want to keep one on me. Let’s take a look at a tactical pocket knife by Alphatek.

This spring assisted tactical knife measures in at 4.75 inches closed, around 8 inches open and 1.5 inches wide. It has a black stone wash 440C high-carbon stainless steel serrated blade, a bottle opener, G-10 handle, lanyard hole and a pocket clip.

Alphatek tactical knifeI’ve used it in a number of applications so far, including slicing tomatoes, cutting sub sandwiches, carving sticks with my kids, knife throwing at logs, and opening packages. You know, the basic stuff. I’m still waiting on the opportunity to test it during close combat with a mountain lion or a terrorist, but if something presents itself, and I survive it, you’ll be the first to know.

I did receive this tactical knife in exchange for my honest opinion of it, so here it is…..

One thing I look for in a pocket knife is my ability to use it one handed. In certain situations, not necessarily tactical, you only have one hand to work with. When you’ve got a fish in one hand, and you need your knife, it’s nice to be able to open it with one hand. This knife is spring assisted and opens very easily using one hand.

It’s very sturdy and made of quality materials. The blade has no wobble to it. Great knife. Five stars for me. If you’d like this Tactical Knife, click the link to see it on Amazon.

Sandalwood LED Camping LanternYes, another product review! I’ve been a bit overwhelmed with the amazing products being sent to me lately looking for honest people to review their products. They say good things come in bundles, right? Well, I’ve been receiving bundles of good things.

Sandalwood Camping Lantern

One of those good things is a cool little battery powered lantern, the Sandalwood LED Camping Lantern. As you can see by the image posted with this article, it’s a very compact lantern, unlike some of the gas powered lanterns you’re used to packing with you. Aside from the LED bulb, it’s constructed with plastic and rubber parts, making it extremely durable and water resistant.

This cool little prepper item has three light modes, high, low and flashing. It comes with a hook on the top and the bottom. You can unscrew the top and hang it upside down for more light exposure. It takes three size D batteries and so far has yet to run low.

So, before your next camping trip, fishing trip or simply to store for emergencies, you can pick up an LED Camping Lantern By Sandalwood® on Amazon through that link. FishingGadgetshub.com also has some helpful information regarding similar items.

survival shovelThe Survival Shovel

So let’s take a look at this survival shovel. I’m telling you right now….it’s quality.

Many other survival shovels sacrifice durability and quality for convenience and price. They’ll use plastic parts instead of metal, which always end up breaking. The only plastic you’ll find on this survival shovel is in the washer between the head of the shovel and the handle.

It adjusts into three different positions. The first position, straight out, is for digging, sawing and using the blade side of the shovel head. The second position is with the head at a ninety degree angle and most likely used for a hoe, or pick. The third position is angled down and away from the handle and could be used for climbing or or easier storage.

I used it, and I like it!

folded survival shovelI took the shovel out for a spin, at night. I wanted to test it out on a dead apricot tree I had out towards the back of my property. My target of choice for the axe was a branch around two to three inches in diameter. With a mediocre swing, I nearly chopped half way through the limb. You’ll have to watch the video to see what happened on my second attempt. Totally unexpected.

After hacking away at the tree, I took it into the front yard from some good ole night time digging. flintI’ve been replacing some sprinkler lines and put the survival shovel and hoe into action. Due to the length of the shovel, it’s not something you want to use for a full day of work, but it can get the job done. And when switched to the hoe/pick position, it works exactly like it should.

In conclusion, I was impressed. It’s a quality built survival shovel will last me for a very long time. Great addition for your camping, hunting or prepping gear!

After just publishing my review on SportsTek’s survival shovel, and as you see in the video I recorded, I also received their LED Headlamp in exchange for some honest feedback.

For the longest time I saw headlamps as something dorks used to read with, but things have come a long way since then. Up until a few weeks ago I had yet to use a headlamp. With all the camping, hunting and outside work I perform after the hours of daylight, I still didn’t see the need for a headlamp. In my mind, a flashlight or my phone worked just fine for what I needed to do.

Man was I wrong. There’s nothing like a beam of light focused exactly where I’m looking. We’ve all done the “propping” of the flashlight thing, trying to wedge it just right so that it’ll shine where you need it to…only to have it slip and fall when you’re in the middle of the task at hand.

LED HeadlampThe LED Headlamp from SportsTek

So let’s talk about the quality of the LED Headlamp SportsTek sent me. My impression after weeks of use is five stars. It’s comfortable, bright enough to do almost anything during the night hours and from what I have seen so far, the batteries seem to last a good while.

Features

LED HeadlampThe LED Headlamp has three settings for the light: Flashing, High and Low. It comes equipped with a scoping lens used to adjust the focus of the light beam. It also comes with a separate attachment used for bike handles.

In conclusion, it’s a nice product. I was actually using it the other night for some outdoor plumbing, and while walking through the house, my mother-in-law sort of giggled at me. She probably wasn’t expecting to see me mounted with a headlamp, but until you find yourself in pitch black, leaning over a hole in the ground and trying to use the light of a flashlight, you’ll be wishing you had a headlamp.

While they’re in stock, you can pick one up on Amazon here: LED Headlamp by SportsTek

trucker hat I was recently sent a camo trucker hat by the good people over at Amazon in exchange for an honest review. I can tell you this much, I am not the guy you’ll see wearing a trucker hat! I think my head is too small, or maybe my face isn’t fat enough. I don’t know exactly what it is, but some people look good in trucker hats. I’m just not one of them.

However, just for kicks, my daughter wanted to take a few snapshots of me sporting the trucker hat…which you’ll probably get a good laugh at. My daughter, however, makes the hat look good..and it looked good on her. Some people are just photogenic I guess.

Wearing that hat reminds me of the good ole days of WOC School, which is Warrant Officer Candidate School. I went through WOC school in preparation for flight school. I was to become an Apache helicopter pilot, and while in WOC school, each company had a color and mascot. Our color was purple. Out of all the colors they could have used, why purple! Anyway, part of our uniforms were these massive purple trucker hats, which were coupled with a purple t-shirt, yellow training belt and shorty military running shorts.

We were sexy.

The Trucker Hat

Anyway, as far as the trucker camo hat goes, it’s a very comfortable hat, the bill is bendable and because of the mesh top, it’s breathable. You can purchase a Legend Camo Trucker Hat on Amazon for yourself using that link.
