I received this comment the other day on one of my blog posts that had to be shared and addressed:
The most likely thing to have happen in your home if you have a firearm there is the injury of you or one of your family members. The odds are really bad. Originally, 43 to 1 by Kellerman. So what if it is only 20 to 1. As fearful as you are, still the most likely event is you or yours getting injured. A really bad bet.
Well, what do you think about his opinion? Are more likely, 43 times more likely, to be injured or fatally wounded as a result of owning a firearm for self defense?
Someone said it, so it must be true!
Here’s a bit of background on the “Kellerman” this commenter is referring to.
Dr. Arthur L. Kellermann, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.E.P, having worked in medicine decided to conduct a study on firearm related injuries and deaths. His studies concluded that those who possess firearms for the purpose of self defense are 43 times more likely to be injured or killed by a firearm.
Although his studies were over a period of around 6 years, he never provided proof of his studies and was criticized by pro-gun organizations such as the NRA (National Rifle Association) claiming that he was just providing anti-gunners propaganda.
43 times more likely to be injured by a firearm if I own one, says Kellerman?
Here’s my take on Kellerman and the comment being addressed above….
I’ve owned a firearm my entire life and nearly every single family member, immediate and extended, owns firearms for self defense, sport and hunting. Out of my 37 years on this planet, I have never heard of any one of those family members being injured by a firearm.
If anything, I would say that those who own a firearm for self defense are AT LEAST 50 times MORE likely to survive an attack from an armed assailant.
I don’t know about you, but if I were in a sticky situation, I would rather be carrying, and at least have the option to defend myself instead allowing someone else the freedom to do as they please with myself and those I care about.
So, tell me. What do you think of the comment above and Kellerman’s study?
The AF2011-A1 Double Barrel Pistol is the very first industrial double barrel pistol of all time. For those of you who love shooting the Colt 1911-A1, the AF2011-A1 was designed in commemoration of its legend. This bad boy packs a punch as a double barrel .45 caliber pistol and is extremely accurate. According to Arsenal Firearms, it will group all 16 bullets, held in a dual, single column magazine, in a target the size of an orange at 15 yards and in a watermelon at 15 yards. In around 3 seconds, with only 8 trigger pulls, you can fire 16 rounds into a target.
Man, if only Chuck Norris could get his hands on this collectors item. Then again, Chuck doesn’t need a gun!
The AF2011-A1 double barrel pistol has some pretty cool features.
Many of it’s parts are interchangeable with the 1911-A1, which makes repair and replacement parts cheaper, and more available. Interchangeable parts include the firing pins, recoil springs and rods, magazine bodies and inner parts, grips, sites, etc…
It has a single slide, single grip safety, single hammer and instead of two magazines, it’s a single column with dual magazines. So instead of having to load two single magazines, drop one and load one!
I read somewhere that it comes with the option to have the ability to fire each trigger separately as well as simultaneously. I didn’t see that option anywhere on the Arsenal Firearms website, so I’m just chalking that up to be a rumor.
My first thoughts about a double barrel pistol were:
I’ve tried to pull the triggers of two pistols while holding them side by side. It’s not an easy thing to do. One trigger always gets pulled before the other. So I doubted even wanting to have the option to fire each trigger separately. However, by including two triggers, two barrels and one slide into this double barrel pistol, it automatically eliminates the struggle of holding two pistols side by side. However, if you want separate firing triggers, why not just use two pistols, which can each be pointed at their own targets? Sure, if the AF2011-A1 did come with the option to fire each barrel separately, you could probably pull the left trigger with your left hand and the right with your right hand.
This takes a whole new meaning to the term, “Dual Wielding!”
I think I’d rather have them fire at the same time, delivering twice the impact of a regular .45.
Do the barrels fire straight or are the slightly angled in, toward each other? Maybe this proves my lack of engineering knowledge, but it was one of my first thoughts. If you think about hitting a target, you want to hit it dead center. With the double barrel pistol, you’ll always miss dead center and hit one round a little left and one a little right.
But then I realized, would you rather have two rounds enter an assailant through the same hole, or hit them twice…one on each side of his chest?
Answered my own question.
PLUS, think about the diversity here when choosing your rounds. You can load one side of the magazine with hollow point rounds while loading the other side with armor piercing rounds. It’ll get the job done one way or the other!
In closing, too many guns to buy and so little time! The AF2011-A1 double barrel pistol is definitely one to add to the collection.
Before you click away, you must, and I say MUST watch the video below. The first minute is sort of boring, but right around 1:05 when he starts firing the pistol, it’s just plain awesome!
If you can picture the last movie you watched where someone fires a pistol in slow motion…the movement of the slide, the explosion of the bullet from the barrel with the shell being ejected and the lingering puff of smoke! Just picture double of all that, and that’s what’s in the video.
Out with the old….in with the new! For those of you who currently own a double barreled shotgun, you are no longer the coolest in town. The triple barreled shotgun is now the new king, at least it is for me. Three barrels of pure awesomeness!
The Triple Barrel Shotgun
A Triple Barrel Shotgun just makes sense right?! Think about it. Regulation in most places in the US state that a hunter can have no more than three shells loaded in their shotgun while hunting. So what have we done? We all use the traditional pump action shotguns such as the Winchester 870 or the Mossberg 500.
Why not just avoid the pump altogether and produce a triple barrel shotgun. Three shots, with no pump!
The Triple Crown, triple barrel shotgun: This is the model for hunting and sport shooting. It’s longer, with all three barrels at 28″ in length. It has a full stock with a total length of 45″.
The Triple Threat, triple barrel shotgun: This is the model for home protection, for the most part. It’s barrel measure at 18″ with a total length of 28″. The wooden stock can actually be partly disassembled, making it a handheld shotgun.
Of course, these triple barreled shotguns are chambered for 12 gauge shells which fire one at a time starting on the bottom left, over to the bottom right and then to the top barrel. There’s no barrel selector, which is why I would almost prefer using the triple barrel over a traditional pump action. It’s virtually a three shot semi-automatic.
Once the shells are fired, there’s currently not an ejector built in, but there is an extractor. That’s sort of helpful for those of us who like to clean up our shells as we go, but in a rush, not so helpful.
Is this the first Triple Barrel Shotgun?
You might be wondering if this is the first triple barrel shotgun every made, and the answer is no. Absolutely not. Heck, there are quadruple barrel and dozen barrel versions of the shotgun.
However, there are a few differences, at least that I’m aware of, which separate the Chiappa triple barrel shotgun from previous versions.
First off, it’s under 9lbs, with the Triple Crown weighing in at 8.7lbs.
Second, the barrels are swapped. On older versions of the triple barrel shotgun, there were two barrels on top and one on the bottom, or three side by side. On the Chiappa, there are two barrels on the bottom with one on top. Also, with a fiber optic site at the end of the top barrel, it gives you the targeting feel of a regular pump action shotgun.
And Third, each barrel has it’s own choke, which are standard Rem Chokes.
In conclusion, you’d better believe that this one is going down on my HUGE list of “Guns to Own!” The triple barrel shotgun from Chiappa has great reviews and is definitely one of those unique weapons to add to your own personal armory. Suggested retail price is right around $1,600.
Call me crazy, a dooms-day prepper, paranoid or tell me that I watch too many action flicks, because I’m all about expecting the best, but preparing for the worst. If you’ve been listening, not just to the news, but on the internet and to people you meet, we never expect crazy things to happen in our lives, but when it does, it’s always better to be ready for it.
Most of the stories I hear, the victims weren’t ready for it. Let’s be the rare exception!
And in my book, part of being ready for such an event within my home is properly concealing my firearms in strategic areas. Heck, we’ve all seen the movies where the guns are taped underneath the sink or are in the tank of the toilet. Sure, they’re concealed, but in my home, that’s an easy find for my two year old.
A good gun safe, from a tactical point of view, is both concealed and easily accessible, yet, is safe enough to protect your own children from injuring themselves.
Concealed and Hidden Gun Safe Ideas for Your Home
So what I’ve done is researched the gun safe and found some pretty original creations out there. We’ve all seen the typical gun safe. They’re green, about four feet tall and have a keyhole in the door, usually right below the “Cabelas” logo! Others are the size of a tank with a huge pirate ship wheel on the front.
But the non-typical gun safe is concealed in the ordinary things we use every single day of our lives, and that’s what you’ll find in these images.
I’m sure there are others out there, so please share them with me and I’ll add them to the gallery as I get them.
The one that won my vote was the Pepsi Machine gun safe. If there were only a way to get a pistol, or even a hand grenade from the dispenser when the “Mountain Dew” button was pushed.
If you’re thinking the land you purchased last year, ten years ago or even fifty years ago is really yours, think again. The more I learn about being a landowner, the more I realize that my land isn’t really my land. It’s only my land as long as I abide by the governments rules and guidelines in using it. Make sense?
For example, this one will really throw you for a loop…. there’s a non-profit organization in existence today trying to make everyone pay for their utilities, even if they’re living completely off the grid. In their view, everyone, by law, should have to pay a percentage of the utilities, regardless of whether they’re using them or not.
Crazy right? More details on that non-profit coming soon.
I ran across this video earlier today. After you watch the video, I hope you’ll realize how important it is to know your rights and what the government can and cannot do. Oh, and also, I hope you realize why you should never move to California. Even though we’re a neighboring state, Arizona and California are nothing alike!
You might also look up Agenda 21 after you watch this video. It’s a UN agenda which many states in the US have banned or are working on banning, one of those being Arizona.
In today’s society, I rest better at night knowing that, if need be, I can protect my family with my firearms. I couldn’t imagine not being able to own a weapon while criminals can. I’m a strong supporter of our second amendment rights and will be a gun owner regardless of the law.
Protected by Gun Signs
With all the “gun free” signs out there, I thought it appropriate to make a collage of a few of the ‘protected by guns’ signs that are floating around the web. I know for a fact that a criminal will think twice before entering my home if he knows I own gun.
I know you probably have your favorite sign, which might not even be in this collage. If that’s the case, please leave a comment with a link to the image of your favorite protected by gun signs and I’ll add them to the collage.
I received this an email this morning titled, “Gun control is Treason!” The email then contained information stating that the Sandy Hooks shooting was really a hoax designed by the government. This so called “hoax” was created in order to create more gun control laws.
I’ve seen articles around the web, tweets, and FB updates stating that there were flaws in the news reports, poor coverage in Sandy Hooks, members of police enforcement spotted out in the woods in places they shouldn’t have been and the list goes on.
Before I post the content of the email I received, I pose the questions: Do you believe that the government would do such a thing? Is the Sandy Hooks shooting really a hoax?
Content of the email….
Overwhelming evidence has surfaced to prove that Sandy Hooks is a hoax. For example, the recently released CNN helicopter footage that is supposed to show children escaping from the school is obviously set somewhere else. The “grieving” parents are surprisingly joyful during their interviews. The footage from the early hours of the incident shows a traffic pattern that makes it impossible for emergency vehicles to operate. There are many other points with various degrees of credibility, but anyone doing serious research should find plenty to disprove the “official” story. In spite of this, many people still manage to believe the TV version of the Sandy Hoax drama.
The critics often say that it is crazy to believe that Sandy Hook is a hoax, but this is simply an irrational emotional response. Their main argument is that the media and the government would not make such a big lie and then lie so poorly. This is the exact working principle of the “Big Lie”, one of Hitler’s techniques. Many people know about this technique and then fall for it anyway. Another common claim is that it’s hard to fake that many deaths, but the “victims” could have been easily paid off to live with new identities. Regardless of the facts, sheeple believe what is shown on TV. They are suffering from the Stockholm Syndrome – they’ve learnt to love Big Brother. Accurate information and logic do not matter to them. Without the means to defend themselves, they are just sheep being led to the slaughter.
The proposed gun control legislation does not improve public safety, but reduces the ability of the people to resist tyranny. High capacity magazines are not necessary to kill unarmed people or commit crime, but are very important for fighting armed minions of a tyrannical government, and deterrring a foreign enemy invasion. Making fighting weapons less available to people reduces their ability to defend themselves. People without the ability to defend themselves are at greater risk than people that can defend themselves.
While the threat of a crazy gunman exists, it pales in comparison to the threat of a murderous government. Murderous governments are not fiction, but historical fact and have emerged virtually everywhere where gun control has been put in place. Even today, millions of political prisoners are being tortured to death in communist countries. People point to the many Western nations that have gun control but no murderous governments as examples, but these governments know that if they were to start killing their own people, Americans would step in. America is the last bastion of freedom on the planet and that is why America is under sustained attack.
The biggest threat to America today comes from within. That threat is traitors in high positions. These traitors work covertly and watch their actions carefully lest they become exposed in a manner that removes the doubt of the public, most of whom cannot believe that such massive treason can take place in our society. They have chosen the ideal cover for their goals of subverting America – the guise of public servants. Using their positions of power, they have gradually eroded our freedoms and rights to further increase their own power. America is now on the brink of dictatorship, where this small group of traitors can have unlimited control of the nation.
The ignorance of the public makes tyranny possible. Many people still believe the Sandy Hoax made for TV drama/story. This amazing feat of ignorance can only be explained by a mental disorder. This type of mass psychosis is one of the conditions necessary for a brutal regime to come to power with popular support. This is the type of mass psychosis that has fueled the public support of murderous dictators like Hitler, Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot. This type of mass psychosis is now prevalent in America and the traitors know it. It is no surprise that they are now seeking to disarm the rest of us, so that we cannot resist their planned tyranny.
Gun control legislation is in direct violation of the Constitution that the legislators have sworn an oath to uphold. The Constitution recognizes and protects the right of the People to own firearms and to use them for self-defense. These are not privileges granted by the Constitution, they are God-given rights that are recognized and protected under the Constitution. They are rights that every legislator has sworn an oath to protect, regardless of religion. Legislation that violates the Constitution is an act of treason. Planning such legislation is planning to commit treason. Feindstein is one of the people planning this, but she is not alone. Feindstein herself has suspicious links to communist China. With leaders like this, it is not surprising that China’s economy bloomed while California’s withered. Her co-conspirators may have similar alternative allegiances. If they can disarm the people and rewrite the Constitution, there will be nothing to stop them from making policies to imprison people opposed to them, or to use their positions of power for profit at the expense of the nation. They are already filthy rich from having done that.
Some people say that the weapons available to the people are not sufficient to protect freedom from tyranny, because the state has much more powerful weapons. There is truth to this criticism and this is because the state has been gradually eroding self-defense rights of the people for some time now. Under the Constitution the people should be able to possess the same weapons as the government, without restrictions. That includes fully-automatic weapons. Needing a permit for concealed carry is already an infringement of the Second Amendment. At the same time, the state has been arming itself to the teeth, including armored vehicles and drones. These weapons are a threat to our freedom and our lives. That money should be used to build our communities, instead of holding us hostage. The legislation that infringes on our rights needs to be removed and our rights must be restored and vigilantly guarded.
Sometimes, in order to perform well in the field, having the right gear can make a huge difference. Having the wrong gear, especially in a tactical situation, can greatly influence speed, accuracy, your safety and performance overall.
One of my biggest frustrations in life, whether I’m hunting, fishing, down at the range or out in the boonies somewhere, is not feeling well equipped. For example, have you ever gone quail hunting without something to put the quail in, such as a hunting vest? Or better yet, how many of you have ever gone deer hunting and didn’t have a holster for your pistol? In case of an emergency, instead of resting on your hip, your pistol is stuffed into your pack. A lot of good it will do in there if the need for your pistol should arise.
So what I’ve done is come up with a list of five signs that it might be time to upgrade your gear.
Five Signs that it might be time to upgrade your Gear!
If the back pack you use in your outdoor activities was also the same one you used in high school, it’s time. HINT: 5.11 Tactical has some great deals on packs.
If all you can fit in your gun case is your gun, it’s time to upgrade.
If you’re archery hunting in an old John Deer t-shirt and blue jeans, it’s time.
If you have to put your pistol in your pocket while at the range or anywhere else you are carrying, it’s time for a holster.
No. Your favorite tennis shoe’s do not qualify as hiking boots. It’s definitely time!
Have you ever noticed the way people treat you based on what you’re wearing, carrying or using, especially when it comes to something gun or tactical related? I sure have. When out in the bush, the guy wearing camouflage, armed with the latest PSE bow will usually get more respect than the guy in blue jeans, a ball cap and a bow he found at a yard sale.
A millionaire dressed like a homeless man, will be treated like a homeless man, nine times out of ten. I once heard that our outward appearance is a reflection of our inward commitment, and I absolutely believe that. My father-in-law eats, sleeps and craps hunting. It’s his life. That’s all he thinks about. Thus, his hunting gear is the best of the best. It’s a reflection of his passion for hunting.
So if any of my “five signs that it might be time to upgrade your gear” apply to you, it’s time. There’s always somewhere else you can spend that money, but you deserve to have the right gear to get the job done, and look good doing it!
First off, everyone effected in any way by the horrific school shootings in Connecticut today will be included in my prayers. There isn’t a decent soul in this country that isn’t grieving for those innocent lives that were lost today.
I have a mild glimpse of the emotions going through every citizen and child involved in that horrible crime. A few years ago, while living in Payson Arizona, I received a call from a friend who informed me that my children’s school was in lock down. Someone on school grounds had seen a man wearing a trench coat, carrying a gun, walking around the school’s premises.
With our home just a few blocks away from the Elementary school they attended, you’d better believe that I was there in moments. The police were there, sweeping the area for the suspect, and all I wanted to do was take my kids home.
That day, I was filled with so much anger and aggression. The thought that my kids had to hide under their desks, with the lights turned off, while police officers swept through the school, made my blood boil. There is not a child in this world that should have to experience that fear, and knowing that mine had to, brought me to tears.
The events of that day were no where near the magnitude as the tragedies experienced in other parts of our nation and in Connecticut today.
What can be done to prevent school shootings and better protect our children?
After the 9/11 airline hijackings, extreme precautions were put into place to prevent that from ever happening again. When the bombing in Oklahoma occurred, barriers around public buildings and distance restrictions were put into place.
What have we done in our school systems, not to just minimize the chances, but to prevent this from ever happening again?
I may just be naive, but here are a few of my ideas:
Form a Security Agency for School Systems. Create an agency specifically for this purpose and call it the NESF, National Education Security Force, or something. The number of guards at each school would depend on the size of the school. Give them an office space were they’ll have access to security camera’s and be able to monitor everyone approaching the school. People will always argue that most schools don’t have the budget for this, but I am willing to bet, after today’s tragedy, most parents would be in support of a tax raise for this very purpose, if it had to come to that. There are ways to find the funding.
Security Camera’s. If the Security Agency sounds too drastic, then let’s get some camera’s installed at all entrances which would be constantly monitored during school hours.
Medal Detectors. This one would be kind of tough and I’m not sure how effective it would be, but every school could get medal detectors installed at every entrance. The events in Connecticut occurred when school was already in session. If the office was alerted of someone entering the building by a medal detector, maybe something could have been done.
Volunteer Security Force. Given, there would have to be strict requirements for those looking to volunteer, but just as I volunteer to teach my daughters P.E. class, parents could form a committee designed to keep watch…sort of like a neighborhood watch program.
Train Teachers/Principals Defense Tactics. Should it be a requirement, with everything else a teacher or principal is required to do, to take courses specifically designed towards protecting their students? Can we go as far as installing a small “gun vault” in the principals office for protection? I am all for training teachers how to defend and react, which I’m sure there are those sorts of programs already, but I’m not so sure the gun vault would be a good idea. We’re trying to keep guns away from our schools, and putting one in every single school could back fire, or would it?
Just a few ideas for thought. After the events of the potential gunman at my kids school in Payson Arizona, they installed a rod iron fence around the entire grounds with only one entrance, which was the front door. How many schools are in existence which haven’t had something like this happen to them yet, which also don’t have anything place to better protect their students? Too many!
So please, to whoever might read this, let’s work together in creating a safer environment for our children to learn in. With the increase in bullying, the mentally disturbed and terrorists at large, we, as parents, must be involved directly in order to make a change.
I like to hear some of your thoughts and ideas. Leave a comment below if you’ve got one.
With as much as I love shooting, it gets a little tough on my wallet. So, to curve my appetite to shoot, I turn to my phone. Google Play has some pretty sweet gun simulator apps, and the Apple Store probably does too. (I don’t have an iPhone and my wife won’t let me try them out on hers!!)
With an unlimited supply of ammo, some of these apps are a lot of fun. My favorite out of all of them is the Weaphones App, built by “OranginalPlan.” There’s both a free and paid version of this app. I only have the free version installed. But out of all the apps I downloaded and tried out, Weaphones had the best graphics, sound and features. It not only allowed me to blow through ammunition the way I like to, it makes you drop the magazine, put a loaded one back in, release the bolt and pull the trigger. Most features that exist on a real weapon, exist on these.
So here’s the list of my top five gun simulator apps in existence today (that i know of and which can be used on an Android phone):
Weaphones. My top pick. Real simulator and great graphics. Allows you to drop magazines, reload, toggle safeties, release bolts, toggle lasers, fold stocks and actually pull the trigger. It allows you to zoom in on the weapon, switch shooting direction and make tutorials optional. Watch Video
Sim Gun. Sim Gun is almost as cool as the Weaphones app. there are several different Sim Gun apps, one for each specific weapon, such as the 1911, M4 and AK47. The sound and graphics are nice and each weapon has different features that are usable, such as reloading, releasing the bolt and extending the stock. The M4 app is probably my favorite one. Another cool thing about this app, you can download a target app on another phone and use your phone to shoot the target using bluetooth. Watch Video
Gun Club 2. Gun Club 2 has a good selection of weapons to use. Graphics don’t really compare to those of the Weaphones app and it is a large download. Watch Video
Guns. Guns, by Calford, is a pretty neat app. One feature I love with Guns is the ability to shoot downrange at different targets. Choose from guns such as the Desert Eagle pistol or an RPG.
A Set of Guns. The simulator is pretty basic but a cool feature in this app, is the game that comes with it. If you’d like to shoot some bottles with your selected weapon, click “play the game.”
